Her breezy style, and her fresh approach to needlepoint have attracted many people to the art. Janet Perry has a blog Nuts about Needlepoint which is the most quoted needlepoint blog on the Web.
Here’s what she says about herself:
If you could find one word to describe me it would be needlepoint. When I began to do needlepoint as a teenager, it was as if I found me voice. It’s such an essential part of who I am that I pretty much have part of my brain thinking about needlepoint almost all the time.
“I look through a magazine and see a cool border and say ‘that would be a neat way to use Ming Stitch. I see a drawing and think — could this be made into needlepoint? Before I found needlepoint, I loved color, and texture, and yarn, and fabric. With needlepoint I can bring all those things together an make something beautiful.
I look at a painted canvas and I see it in stitches, I think about new needlepoint projects everyday. There is no way on earth I can stitch everything I think of, so I want to share it with you.
And, let’s confess it now, I’m also a geek. And like most geeks, I’m totally passionate about my subject and want to learn everything I can about it. If it’s needlepoint, or could be, I want to learn about it. And learn everything I can.
“Besides being a geek and a needlepointer, I’m also a librarian. And like most librarians, I like to help people and answer their questions. If I don’t know the answer I want to find it or find where to find it and tell you.
“Put all these things together with my love of writing and you get this site, All about Needlepoint. In it I want to share with you what I’ve learned, what I’ve found, and what new things I’ve designed.
“If you like what you see, I’m available to write or consult with you about developing a needlework web site. I think the SBI system is about the most flexible you can find for anyone, even someone with no computer experience beyond email, to create an effective needlework business website you can maintain yourself.
“On the non-needlepoint side of things I live on historic Mare Island in the San Francisco Bay with my DH of almost 30 years, and one of my three kids, my son. My two daughters live in the Washington, DC area, one working in Washington, DC, and one in Annapolis, MD. Both are in the food service industry. We have three cats.
“Besides needlepoint, although I know you are saying what else is there, I enjoy eating out, spending time with friends, interior design, cooking, and reading.”
