And the San Francisco School of Needlework will be celebrating with an event that “we feel offers an expression for embroidery, community gathering and the world.”
Here’s how they describe the event: “To celebrate World Embroidery Day, on Sunday, July 30, SNAD will hold a “Human Stitch-In”—playing on the Human Be-In that took place in 1967 and continuing our 50th-anniversary Summer of Love festivities.
LJoin us in the Presidio at the awesome Presidio Picnic from 11-4, where experienced stitchers and newcomers alike will embroider together to a create a giant communal peace-symbol banner. Bring a picnic or enjoy the international food trucks. Amid the music and under a canopy, we’ll share stories and stitches. Add your creativity around the outside edge or sit within the inner cut-outs to embellish the inner peace sign. Kids welcome!
“In order to prepare the giant peace-symbol banner, we’re also hosting a Potluck Prep Party on Saturday, July 22, from 11:30-3:30 at SNAD. We encourage you to come and help us with the design process — and eat some nibbles in good company. ”
